Data Infrastructure, DevOps, Data Engineering, Automation

Would you like to be part of a team of highly skilled and devoted DevOps engineers? We are now looking for a Data Engineer to join the Telemetry team. You will be collaborating with different Engineering Development teams that, together with the rest of your colleagues at the Telemetry team, will play a key role in the delivery of advanced data services and novel data products contributing to the further development of the Cross Technology area of the organisation.

At Nordea, we know our customers’ needs are changing – and we’re deeply committed to meeting them with the financial solutions of tomorrow. We’re creating an agile environment where we’re harnessing the power of technology – one where you can make an impact. So bring your skills, ideas and unique background. With us, you’ll find plenty of opportunities to grow and make your mark on something bigger.

About this opportunity

Welcome to the Cloud Engineering and Telemetry unit, a central enabler for the Engineering System organisation at Nordea. We add value by automating, streamlining and analysing our operations and processes to enable rapid development and deployment of software.

Telemetry is an interdisciplinary team of highly skilled engineers that work collaboratively developing and implementing varying data products and maintaining the data infrastructure. We are responsible for serving the organisation with data services and insights to enable the Nordea DevOps strategy and journey forward.

You and the rest of the Telemetry team are responsible for the tools and the processes in the Telemetry domain which enables Nordea to move towards a more modern automated landscape and ways of working.

As a Data Engineer in the Telemetry, you will play a key role driving the data engineering area by providing the tooling and technical guidance and developing the ETL processes in the flexible data infrastructure to provide the data intelligence at scale in the organisation.

You will be working on building flexible and user-friendly infrastructure that powers our data pipelines and centralised data lake, developing easy to use pipelines for orchestrating data ingestion and data processing jobs that enable and improve the data-driven decision-making process. You will also be assisting in solving data infrastructure challenges across the whole organisation to help in the journey towards automatisation.

What you'll be doing:

  • Work closely with other engineers and stakeholders to provide a better understanding of data and systems integration, data engineering and infrastructure operations with the tools and services used in the team.
  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of the architecture and container set up, and the maintenance of the tools that the team members will be using.
  • Articulate best practices around data ingestion, data processing and job orchestration and maintenance. Implement alerting systems to track data quality and consistency, and data services uptime.
  • Responsible for automating networking, security controls, and processes to provide improved metrics and operational support to optimise the data products and services.
  • Produce innovative ideas and find opportunities where to best utilise the data infrastructure to enable efficient and automated analytical model building.
  • Work in an agile environment, develop solutions using modern tools and version control and deploy your solutions in state-of-the-art platforms.

The role is based in Stockholm; Gdańsk; Gdynia; Helsinki.

Who you are

Collaboration. Ownership. Passion. Courage. These are the values that guide us in being at our best – and that we imagine you share with us.

To succeed in this role, we believe that you have:

  • Proven experience with infrastructure platforms for containerisation (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker), orchestration (e.g., Ansible, Jenkins) and workflow management (e.g., Apache Airflow, Luigi).
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with processing at large scale, programming languages (e.g., Python), and database query languages (e.g., SQL)
  • Experience using data engineering tooling (e.g. Apache Beam), analytics and monitoring tooling (e.g., Splunk, InfluxDB) and exposure to machine learning pipelines deployment.
  • Adept at documenting your solutions, describing processes, and presenting your findings.
  • Interested in advanced analytics and modelling (e.g., predictive analytics, machine learning, etc).
  • Academic degree in engineering, mathematics, statistics, computer science or information management or equivalent quantitative field, or work experience.

And to succeed in this role, we believe that some of your personal competences are:

  • Problem solver, quality driven – analyse unknown situations and can identify appropriate, effective, and useful solutions.
  • Solution driven, results oriented – pursue challenging goals while conveying a sense of challenging work to achieve impactful results.
  • Self-driven, initiator – seek new challenges and opportunities and act when others hesitate.
  • Team player, communication master – work and collaborate with your peers sharing information and ability to achieve the desired results.
  • Fast learner, continuous adapter – learn from experience and takes others’ feedback to self-develop competences over time.
