Data Engineer

There is a growing backlog of work that goes beyond the classic predictive analytics that requires advance data science methodologies. The Data Engineer will work on a Data Science team supporting stakeholders and analysts to identify new opportunities utilizing large sets of structured and unstructured data. They will use their experience to build and deploy data pipelines supporting Data Science and AI/ML products, and drive improvements to existing operating models.

This position is for a Data Engineer within the Lockheed Martin (LM) Chief Data & Analytics Office (CDAO) supporting the Rotary and Mission Systems (RMS) CDAO.

The base work location is the Aguadilla, Puerto Rico facility; full-time telecommuters will be considered for this position but must reside in Puerto Rico.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Exhibits ingenuity, creativity, and resourcefulness when exploring and researching data
  • Applies and/or develops performant workflows that clean, transform and structure unorganized data
  • Responsible for collecting, ingesting, processing, and managing large datasets from a wide variety of data sources and stakeholders
  • Applies and/or develops advanced technologies, scientific principles, statistical theories and concepts to identify novel and meaningful patterns in data
  • Modeling complex business problems, discovering insights and identifying opportunities using statistical, algorithmic, data mining, and visualization techniques
  • Tight collaboration with stakeholders to analyze business problems and develop analytical models
  • Working with Data Scientists to develop pipelines that support advanced analytics and Data Science analysis
Basic Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated SQL experience in database modeling and data transformations
  • Demonstrated experience using performance tuning and query optimization techniques
  • Understands the data lifecycle and can interpret and communicate the state of data throughout the processing pipeline
  • Demonstrated experience using performance tuning and query optimization techniques
  • Experience in computer science and statistics to solve data and business problems
  • Ability to document technical solutions in support of standards and best practices
  • Must have strong problem-solving skills, business acumen, and demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to partner with stakeholders and peers (e.g. data analysts, data engineers) to identify and solve a business problem
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or other relevant area
  • US Citizenship required
Desired Skills:
  • Experience working with virtual teams
  • Prior Aerospace & Defense industry experience
  • Experience with collaborative software development best practices, such as git, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing
  • Knowledge of Frequentist and Bayesian statistical concepts such as correlation, linear regression, optimization, and how they can be applied to algorithm development
  • Experience in creation/deployment of models and workflows, at operational scale
  • Experience with common data science open-source languages (such as Python, R, or Julia), frameworks (such as TensorFlow, Pytorch, ONNX), and/or data analysis/BI tooling (such as Tableau, SAP HANA, Pig, or Hive)
  • Experience in AWS
  • Experience with SQL, SLT, Glue, Hadoop / Big Data, SAP HANA, or SAP Business Objects suite
  • Understanding of data governance, data security, and data quality
  • Experience in Agile best practices
