OptumLab's efforts are driven by math, data, and clinical science, but also focus on the human connections required to understand and treat the chronic diseases that afflict nearly half of the world’s population. To do so, our team tracks the latest in science, technology, and clinical care—including what we can learn from our own data. We then apply these things via research studies, clinical trials, and pilot programs that identify new ways to prevent, detect, and intercept disease for our members.

The Senior Data Engineer is building automated solutions for data enrichment to support data science activities. Solutions are streamline data ingestion efficiently based. Automating event-based processes to support self-service to the teams.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Innovate, design and develop solutions to improve the return of technology investment (ROI) and reduce manual interventions.
  • Define the principles that guide technology decisions for the segment and use them to lead an application modernization and rationalization agenda
  • Analyze the current technology environment to detect critical deficiencies and collaborate with the Enterprise Architecture from other lines of business and delivery teams to recommend solutions for improvement
  • Rectify gaps and pain points within the current state by influencing the development, communication and implementation of the enterprise technology architecture
  • Build end-to-end solution plans in the form of roadmaps that define the future state solution, scope of solution initiatives, and solution delivery sequencing through architecture transition states
  • Create and foster an environment of innovation by removing roadblocks to enable strategic risk taking, advocating and driving change management activities, modeling the adoption of innovative behaviors and practices, and by committing time and energy on the development coaching and performance feedback for each employee on the team
  • Facilitate change and process improvement within the architecture community
  • Engage in Industry technology trends and their application to health care as a visible member of the health care technology community
  • Identify and select the right talent in support of our mission and initiatives
  • Meet deadlines for deliverables

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of hands-on data warehouse experience on Google BigQuery or equivalent
  • 3+ years’ experience Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or Azure Data Engineering
  • 3+ years’ experience with at least one scripting language, strong preference for Python but will consider C++ or Java
  • 2+ years’ experience with the Airflow and Scripting experience

  • Experience creating and fostering effective working relationships with executives and key business partners to drive change agendas
  • Experience working under pressure to meet deadlines and deliverables
  • Experience bringing innovative solutions to the team
  • Experience taking ambiguity and pulling together a solution that is implemented
  • Experience navigating a complex organization, understand the big picture, and influence the enterprise to leverage technology in alignment with our strategies
  • Experience influencing ideas to business and IT leaders outside your direct team
