A fantastic opportunity to join the NCA Data Science Team,

The role will be responsible for assisting the Data Science Team in delivering high quality and innovative data solutions. The successful candidate will be expected to develop their knowledge and skillset, support junior members of the team and introduce pioneering ideas into clinical, research and operational settings.

  • Work closely with members of the team and the wider Informatics department to understand flow of data and how to best leverage our data to identify, quantify and deliver business value.
  • Knowledge of modern statistical learning techniques (regression, classification, decision trees, supervised / unsupervised, explanatory / predictive models), and how and when to practically apply them
  • Explore the trusts datasets & pull out messages that others can’t see, utilising algorithms, models via experimental design, data cleansing, exploratory data analysis and hypothesis.

Main duties of the job

  • Ability to utilise latest technologies to support the programme of work including but not limited to: R, R Shiny, Python, Azure (Machine Learning Studio, DataLake, DataBricks, SQL Server) Power BI etc..
  • Provide regular updates to the Data Science Manager on the progress of work and any emerging issues or challenges to meeting agreed delivery dates.
  • Work with the Business Intelligence Team through the provision of high quality information analysis provided through advanced statistical information skills.
  • Able to communicate insights to non-technical audiences & build compelling evidence to support your recommendations.
  • Review and maintain effective written working procedures in line with NHS data standards. Document and rationalise methodologies, experiments and code.
  • Liaise with the Information Business Partners team in identifying and delivering analytical projects.
  • Create compelling outputs that drive action including visualisations, written reports, research papers, interactive applications and more.
  • Generate own hypotheses based on the understanding of our data to answer questions the trust has not yet asked.
  • Display a level of intellectual curiosity and proactively explore potential areas of innovation
  • Display an understanding of the benefits Data Science to the organisation and the wider healthcare sector.
  • Support and develop junior members of the team with training and mentoring.
  • Display a willingness to be open and transparent with methodologies
