The Lead Data Scientist for Upper Extremities in Digital Biomarkers Data Science will advance precision and personalized medicine through the development and validation of transformative digital measures and algorithms using biometric monitoring technologies (BioMeTs) for people living with MS, neuromuscular diseases (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis [ALS] and spinal muscular atrophy [SMA]), Parkinson’s disease (PD) and/or Alzheimer’s Disease (AD).


Job Description


As a Lead Data Scientist for Upper Extremities in the Digital Biomarkers Data Science team within BDH Sciences, you will:

  • Design digital biomarker and outcome measurement development strategies quantifying behavior and function of the upper extremities, including technical verification, analytical and clinical validation.
  • Lead the development of end-to-end signal processing pipelines, feature engineering and disease and behavioral models for potential biomarkers/endpoints from sensor-based BioMeT data, including clinical studies using Konectom™, a BDH smartphone-based digital outcome assessment of cognitive and motor functions
  • Lead the analyses and the communication of results, including at conferences and in peer-reviewed publications for audiences in the therapeutic area of interest, sensor science, machine learning and digital medicine.

This role is of key importance to achieve the strategic vision and objective to make Biogen a recognized leader in digital health neuroscience, hence contributing to our corporate vision & strategy – this role will report to the Head of Digital Biomarkers Development.

Qualifications

  • PhD in biomedical engineer, bioinformatics, computer science, applied mathematics, computational biology, or systems biology
  • Intrinsic passion for advancing human disease understanding and transforming healthcare using digital technologies
  • >= 5 years Pharma/Biotech/Tech industry experience, alternatively extensive leadership experience in academic/clinical centers of excellence
  • Deep understanding of established analytical/modeling methodologies.
  • Expertise in the field of Digital Biomarker development
  • Profound knowledge in the field of sensor-based signal processing leveraging state of the art methodologies, programming languages, and tools
  • Track record of initiating and managing complex, interdisciplinary research and development projects and teams, especially in the fields of software and technology implementation in support of clinical studies
  • Track-record of scientific publications in the field of digital biomarkers for upper extremities
  • Cutting-edge analytical, communication and presentation skills
