Alteryx is searching for a Lead Data Scientist based in the United States. ( REMOTE is an option).

Position Overview:

As a Lead Data Scientist, you are responsible for delivering turnkey data science solutions for our customers. This requires a mix of inspiring and achieving through others as well as contributing where needed to push things past the finish line.

An ideal candidate has a proven track record of leading data science teams, strong analytic capabilities, and an agile mindset. This role will help grow the team and transform how data science will be delivered at Alteryx. It is a meaningful and exciting role to be in!


  • Designs, develops, solves, and programs models, methods, processes, and systems to analyze unstructured/structured datasets (a diverse set of large and very large big data sources) to generate actionable insights and solutions for internal and external partners.

  • Interacts with product and service teams to identify questions and issues for data analysis and experiments.

  • Develops and codes software programs, models, algorithms, and automated processes to cleanse, integrate and evaluate datasets from multiple sources.

  • Develops and evaluates advanced algorithms, including descriptive, measurement, predictive, optimization and prescriptive models that lead to tactical and strategic business insights.

  • Applies knowledge of statistics, econometrics, operations research, machine learning, deep learning methods, computer programming, data engineering, simulation techniques, and advanced mathematics at the MS and Ph.D. level to model market behavior, uncover patterns in large datasets, identify market opportunities, pose meaningful business questions, and make valuable discoveries that lead to prototype development, full scale product deployment, and improvements with existing products.

  • Helps usher large-scale product implementations from inception to post-rollout support.

  • Knowledge of development tools such as R, Python, SQL, C#, Java, C++, Matlab, Microsoft Suite of Products (Visual Studio, Azure, MS SQL Server, Dynamics, Office), AWS, Adobe Analytics, and a range of data infrastructure/engineering tools.

  • Recognized subject matter expert with specialized knowledge in the function.

  • Manages large projects or processes.

  • Limited oversight from manager.

  • Coaches, reviews and delegates work to lower level professionals.

  • Problems faced are difficult and often complex.

  • Influences others regarding policies, practices and procedures.


  • Provides solutions to a variety of advanced complex technical projects or business issues requiring state of the art technical or industry knowledge.

  • May be the in-house expert on specific technologies or within the job function area.

  • Complete understanding and wide application of advanced technical principles, theories and concepts in a specialized field.

  • Possess broad knowledge of professional field and other related functions.

  • Goals are provided to the incumbent in form of desired results.

  • Determines and develops approach to solve functional area related issues.

  • Enhanced level understanding of the department and the role that is plays in supporting the organization.

  • Is able to easily work with other departments to determine strategy and processes.

  • Seeks new ways to improve department and function within the company. Regular provides insight into complex issues and for complex department questions.

  • Either sets or participates in department goal setting.

  • Regular provides direction for junior staff members.

  • Has advanced technical knowledge and has some knowledge in related disciplines.

  • Possess the strongest of skills acquired through advanced training, study and experience.

  • May posses four year college degree (or additional relevant experience in a related field).

  • Minimum 8 years functional experience including a minimum of 5 years position specific experience.


Alteryx is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role in Ann Arbor, MI is $117,000 - $198,900. Compensation will ultimately be in line with the location in which the position is filled. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidate’s relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and geographic location. This role is eligible for variable compensation including bonus and stock grants.
