WHO YOU'LL WORK WITH
You will work in McKinsey’s Brussels office as part of our Nature Analytics team, a newly created department within Sustainability Insights, the analytics-division of McKinsey’s Sustainability practice.
Sustainability Insights (SI) is responsible for developing, maintaining and delivering models, data foundations and methodological approaches for our client service around topics like decarbonization, natural capital erosion and conservation, supply chain sustainability, climate change mitigation, carbon offset strategies, climate risk and the impacts of the energy transition.
Nature Analytics (NAX) develops advanced analytics to support the climate and nature conservation strategy of private companies, NGOs and philanthropic entities and public-sector clients. As a member of the NAX team, you will work closely with other NAX and SI team members, our global sustainability leadership and McKinsey colleagues across the globe with whom you will collaborate on client engagements. You will be directly responsible for analyses, insights and client support across sectors and geographies.
The planet’s natural assets are degraded at unprecedented scale and pace resulting in escalating impact on biodiversity, climate and ‘ecosystem services’. Leaders across private, public and social sectors are increasingly aware of the role they can play in halting the destruction of nature and natural capital and start restoring landscapes. Through its NAX group, McKinsey & Company supports government leaders, private sector CEOs and global non-profit alliances on this critically important topic.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
You will create distinctive analytical assets as well as their deployment within clients’ contexts.
Examples for product development tasks include building conservation planning tools and creating metrics to evaluate the impact of client’s activities on climate or biodiversity. Examples for client service include supporting public sector clients on land use strategies, or private sector clients on commodity-based supply chain mapping and spatial footprint reduction scenarios. You will have the opportunity to lead and contribute to impactful reach and relevance activities (e.g. publications on McKinsey.com or in the McKinsey Quarterly).
You will conduct research using software such as Python and R, creating impactful visualization (e.g. maps) and writing detailed reports on specific sustainability-related topics using PowerPoint in direct client service. You will work on internal product development tasks and have extensive growth opportunities to specialize in particular areas of interest. Over time, you will take ownership over the development and growth of new capabilities within NAX and you will develop into a world-class expert on specific perspectives, acting as a thought-partner to McKinsey senior leadership and clients.
You will work alongside Sustainability Insights’ specialists, apply proprietary tools and methodologies and follow data-driven approaches to solve the most challenging sustainability problems our clients face today.
