What you’ll do

As a Data Engineer in the team, you will work with cutting edge technology in an open and collaborative environment, nursing innovative ideas. The group has a strong focus on data access, warehousing and visualization of experiential, as well as, predictive data. To achieve the data quality we desire, we work collaboratively with our off-shore support teams, across and outside Clinical Pharmacology and Safety Sciences as required.

  • Collaborate with scientists to understand the business need and develop data solutions to provide business value

  • Partner with IT to design, build and test data storage solutions for our scientists to capture, store and retrieve their data

  • Extract, Transform and Load data from one or many sources and store it in our main data stores

  • Create solutions for our scientists to best utilize and visualize data and information from our data sources

  • Develop and support R and Python applications

  • Work alongside our data scientists to extract knowledge and information

Essential criteria

  • B.Sc., M.Sc. degree (or equivalent) in computer science, life science, or a related field; preferably with industry experience (the position can be filled flexibly at either entry or more senior level)

  • Demonstrated knowledge in one or more of the following areas:

    • Demonstrated expertise in ETL tools and platforms

    • Knowledge of SQL &/or DAX

    • Expertise in data modelling (e.g. Visio)

    • Application and development of data visualizations using common Business Intelligence platforms e.g. Power BI, Spotfire, etc.

    • Experience in working in an Agile software development environment and Design Thinking processes

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary research environment

  • Innovative thinking, with enthusiasm, energy and drive

  • Open-minded, and ready to embrace new ideas and different perspectives

  • Strong critical thinking, planning, organizational and time management skills

Desirable criteria

  • Experience in programming (particularly R/Python). Previous experience using cloud platforms like AWS would be beneficial

  • Knowledge of Pharmaceutical R&D

  • Understanding of SEND data standards for pre-clinical studies
