Principal Data Scientist





YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary responsibilities of Principal Data Scientist:


  • Create and maintain multi-year program targeted at automatizing decision in the field production space, labs, and facilities using imaging sensing technology;

  • Develop high performing, highly scalable models, validation, deployment of analytic models and related enabling technologies in the space of manufacturing of seeds and crop protection products;

  • Engage with domain experts to define requirements for data science solutions;

  • Define and develop alternative approaches, training data creation and curation, model creation, documentation and validation;

  • Partner with the science scale and data asset teams to deploy these models globally across different crops;

  • Communicate the impact of the analytics on the research pipeline with peers and leadership;

  • Establish cutting edge technology in the space of new ML/Al and Operations Research with applications to agriculture;

  • Collaborate with industry and academia on various research topics;

  • Participate in evaluation of select third party technologies and provide recommendations for future technical strategies;

  • Establish team adherence to best practices as defined by data science center of excellence: agile/scrum, phased project advancements, code documentation and review, information security, intellectual property documentation;

  • Partner with teams across the enterprise to deploy models to production, including production ready code, data 1/0, stakeholder engagement and training, long term plans for support and monitoring sustainable performance;

  • Manage annual expense budget of $1-2M

  • Participate and Lead crop science, decision science and smart operations technical initiatives;

  • Participate of the extended leadership team of crop science decision science.

Qualification & Competencies


    • PhD in a Quantitative discipline Engineering, Physics, statistics, mathematics, computer science, bioinformatics, Geo-Information Systems, Environmental Sciences;

    • 1O+ years of experience managing technical teams/projects, supervising their work, and coaching them on career development;

    • A breadth of statistical and analytical techniques;

    • 5+ years experience of applying ML technologies to drive business outcomes;

    • Lead and influene multidisciplinary teams;

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    • Familiarity with agriculture industry a plus.
