The role of the Delivery Data Scientist is to lead the customers analytic journey, creating strategies to realize both the customers digital transformation and our AI vision as a company.
There will be relentless customer-driven focus on business outcomes, collaboration, rock solid solutions that scale, and contribution towards driving the success of other Data Scientists. We measure outcomes, not hours. We run on Trust, and unless onsite presence is required, you can work from wherever you want.
We win and deliver projects and programs that are part of business transformation. It may be a machine learning pipeline, advice on how the customer should establish and organize their data science team or charting their analytic roadmap. The data science solutions should drive value for our customers. These are significant projects with world leading customers that consistently push the edge of scalability, architecture, and business value.
We collaborate within the team of architects, business professionals, project managers, data engineers and data scientists. We work across Microsoft with sales teams, product teams, and Microsoft research. Moreover, we engage our partners to assure an optimal mix of skills and experiences required for the delivery. What you share, how you leverage the work of others, and how you shape the careers and skills of others are all measurements of collaboration.
The job assumes a foundation of core data science skills enriched with curiosity, delivery experience in commercial environments, great customer and communication skills, and the experience to lead and mentor less experienced team members. More specifically:
4+ years data science background
Experience with data science project delivery work, including the awareness of operationalizing a solution in production
Proven experience implementing and deploying advanced analytics solutions for large commercial customers in complex heterogeneous environments
Strong communication skills and preference for teamwork
Demonstrated team lead or project management background
Experience leading sales conversations, presentations, and customer workshops
We think that an ideal candidate would be characterized by of the following:
Master’s degree or above, or equivalent industry experience, in machine learning, mathematics, computer science, statistics or a related quantitative discipline is preferred. We find people with applied experience in natural sciences, quantitative social sciences and engineering do well.
Familiarity with cloud technologies
Demonstrated interest in and familiarity with data science workflow and methodology supporting the need to move systems into production and support (MLOps)
Desire to mentor and contribute to the global AI community
Ability to deal with data preparation effectively
Good command of visualization tools (e.g. SAP, Tableau, R Shiny, QlikView, PowerBI)
Ability to write good code in one of the following: R, Java, Python, F#, C#, Scala
Knowledge of data engineering tools, languages, or libraries: Databricks, Hadoop, Mahout, Apache Spark
