Research Data Analyst

Job description

We are seeking a Research Data Analyst who will be responsible for analyzing data for a series of studies focused on the optimization of sexual behavior stigma metrics and HIV surveillance for key populations across Africa and the US with faculty from the Center for Public Health and Human Rights, Department of Epidemiology, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, in partnership with PRISM Health within the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Lead and conduct rigorous psychometric and latent variable analyses to characterize and test mediated associations between stigmas and HIV-related outcomes in the context of intersectionality.
Develop and manage essential database processes including data cleaning and quality control.
Assist in the development of new statistical and epidemiological methods as appropriate for these studies.
Coordinate and contribute to manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication.
First author publications are a potential or being co-author on other publications.
Assist with the preparation of reports and presentations at scientific meetings.
Supporting grant applications

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
3 years related experience.
Additional education (Master's level) may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with UNIX, SPlus, database software, and/or other statistical packages desired.
Master's or PhD in Biostatistics, Statistical Epidemiology, or related field preferred.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Experience in statistical and scientific computing/programming in STATA, R, or SAS is necessary.
Comfortable dealing with data related to human rights issues such as sexual and gender minorities in stigmatized environments.
Demonstrated self-management.
Timely responsiveness to communications in person and by e-mail.
Prior collaborative research experience.
Ability to work on multiple tasks with short deadlines.
Ability to exercise independent judgement.

Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications:
Demonstrated experience analyzing large data sets.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
