Job Title: Data Engineer/Senior Data Engineer (Multiple Roles) – Marketing & Digital Data Area
Location: Docklands, Melbourne (Hybrid)
We have multiple Data Engineer & Senior Data Engineer roles available within the Marketing & Digital Data Area.
The Marketing & Digital Data Area’s mission is to enable targeted customer growth and retention by using meaningful data, scientific methods and automation to make the best decisions and provide highly-relevant and timely communications in-channel. Our work is focussed on five key themes:
Understanding our customers and anticipating their needs and actions with self-learning predictive models and deep analytical data
Providing our customers with the most relevant experience at every step by making the best decisions based on all relevant information every time
Enabling our stakeholders to be data-driven and fluent through championing self-service tools and analytics
Guiding the business in doing the right work the right way with specific, deep and actionable insights
Supporting sustainable and strategic initiative delivery with key data assets and integrations for personalisation use-cases
As a Data Engineer, you will apply your strong data-sourcing, data-transformation, data-modelling, software development & programming skills to design and build robust data processing solutions that enable value from analytics, data science and marketing workloads and drive rapid decision-making and business outcomes. You will work closely with the squad members to ensure outcomes meet business needs and customer expectations, champion continuous improvement, support your peers, and link into the wider Enterprise Data Strategy.
For a candidate to be successful as a “Senior Data Engineer”, the candidate will be seen as the ‘lead DE’ on initiatives, an expert in their field, and actively support and mentor junior peers.
What will your day look like
Liaise with business stakeholders to understand requirements
Work collaboratively with stakeholders and delivery personnel within and outside of your squad
Source data from a variety of sources to combine, synthesise and automate to deliver new and enhanced data assets and flows to facilitate analysis, modelling, visualisation, and marketing
Validate the use of accurate data sourced from proven reliable sources
Optimise data flows by building robust, fault-tolerant data pipelines
Design data structures for data ingestion, integration and analytics layers on a variety of technologies
Contribute to strategy and roadmap for data capability to support customer communications
Drive continuous improvement in systems, practices, and processes
Review all deliverables to ensure quality and conformance to standards
Help guide and support less experienced data colleagues
What will you bring?
Strong experience with Teradata, SQL and large data sets (many TB)
Experience with other database platforms and language variants (Oracle, Hadoop, T-SQL, PL/SQL, Postgres, MySQL)
Proficiency with tools and techniques for different aspects of ETL and data engineering and automation (DataStage, Python, SAS, R, Java, APIs, Kafka, SSIS)
Understand development for visualisation tools such as QlikSense, Tableau
Experience with some components of Data Science environments (Mlflow, Pyspark, Airflow, Jupyter, S3 Storage, Miniconda, Grafana, Prometheus, Trino, Superset, Hive)
Software Engineering experience with proficiency in at least one high-level programming language (e.g. Python, Java)
Proficiency analysing, modelling, cleansing and wrangling data
Understanding of data architectures, data management, data asset performance tuning, distributed system design, communication protocols, database, storage and/or security protocol
A growth mindset and desire to continually learn and share new techniques and ideas
Effective communication and presentation to technical and non-technical audiences, and the ability to translate between business concepts and technical solutions with ease
Experience with tools such as Bitbucket/Git, Jira, Confluence and test-driven methodologies
Good understanding of DevOps principles and approaches
Good understanding of the Banking system and products, services, channels. Experience working with financial industry data, transactional data and digital behavioural data (clickstream) is highly regarded.
Understanding of data-driven marketing/personalisation, data-science, next-best-action, arbitration and real-time decisioning is desirable
