Director, Data Scientist

Job description

Instnt is seeking a Director, Data Science. Reporting to the Chief Product Officer, the Director, Data Science is responsible for leading the development and implementation of data science strategies and initiatives that support business goals and objectives. This individual will oversee a team of data scientists and analysts and will be responsible for managing the team's projects and resources.

The Director of Data Science will collaborate with other department heads and stakeholders to identify business problems and opportunities and will use data analysis and modeling techniques to present Instnt's product to prospects and customers.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage a team of data scientists and analysts, providing guidance and support in the development and execution of data-driven projects.
  • Manage the data study process and present findings to prospects.
  • Partner with the CPO to ensure efficient development and implementation of high-quality Data Science solutions.
  • Communicate complex data science concepts and findings to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
  • Manage project timelines and resources to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Ensure that data science practices and procedures are aligned and followed, ensuring data quality is maintained throughout the data science process.
  • Use data to fuel automation and decisions within Instnt.
  • Develop and employ AI algorithms that can find (predictive) patterns in large data sets.
  • Collaborate with Instnt departments, including Engineering, QA, Development, Sales, and Marketing, to ensure plans and product goals and aligned.

Technical Skills Required:
  • Significant experience applying statistics, probability, pattern-recognition, and machine learning to real business problems
  • Operationalizing predictive models, including performance monitoring, drift detection, and retraining cadence.
  • Experience using SQL to query relational databases.
  • Utilize Python, Hadoop, Pig, Spark, Luigi and other open-source big data components to find answers to analytical problems.
  • Experience working with data in Python (Pandas).
  • Utilized model building tools like H20, DataRobot, Spark, SageMaker, SciKit-Learn

Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience managing a team of data scientists and analysts.
  • 7+ years of experience in data science, with a proven track record of developing and implementing data-driven solutions.
  • Strong leadership and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Bachelor's Degree in CS, Mathematics, Statistics or similar field of study or equivalent work experience. Master's Degree preferred.
  • Ability to explain complex ideas and algorithms in understandable ways
  • Experience in developing data-driven algorithms in information retrieval, relevance, or machine learning
  • Experience working in a fast, high growth startup environment
