Internship Data Scientist for Investment Solutions

Your impact as Data Scientist Intern at NN

Adaptive Investing is a cornerstone of NN IP’s strategy, augmenting human capabilities with sophisticated techniques. The Investment Solutions team has 4 Data Scientists who are responsible for quantitative signals and tooling used by the Global Fixed Income and LDI teams of the Fixed Income Solutions department.

Your role will be to research one or more new quantitative signals, with the support of our Data Scientists. Your research will help the team generate new insights and add value to our asset allocation processes. A research project does not always discover a new source of returns, but when it does then this may be implemented directly into the investment processes of our investment funds and client mandates.

• You research new quantitative factors that drive asset class performance
• You analyse data and interpret results, backtesting to really see if your research has worked!
• You create presentations of your results and organize discussions with the stakeholders

Who you are

We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague. When assessing your application we will be looking for:

• University student of statistics / econometrics / mathematics / financial economics or similar
• Understanding of time series and basic backtesting principles with interest in financial markets
• Able to explain, document and present ideas and concepts to a broader audience
• Experience of programming languages like R/Python and collaborative and structured coding principles

Your colleagues

The Fixed Income Solutions (FIS) department is responsible for Liability Driven Investment (LDI) for third parties and the General Account (NN insurance entities), Money Market Funds, and Global Fixed Income. The Investment Solutions team sits as part of the General Account (GA) desk, and is responsible for the investment management of the NN insurance entities. With entities such as NN Leven, NN Insurance Belgium, NN Spain, NN Greece and NN Reinsurance, NN Group is NN IP’s biggest client. The team is responsible for all activity within the GA of FX hedging and other derivative overlays, for the securities financing program and for identifying investment opportunities in a range of markets. The successful candidate will gain exposure to all of these activities.
