About the role

The UKPI business is building out a more advanced Data & Analytics function and is looking for an addition data analyst to join our growing team. Sitting within the newly formed Strategic Services division which has been set up drive the strategic direction of Vanguard’s European retail business. The Data and Analytics function is central to this in leveraging our most valuable data sources to drive insight and decision making across our product, CX, Operations and Services teams.

Key Objectives

  • Collaboration with business – partner with product owners, SEMs and leaders across the PI teams to understand key business objectives and define analytical frameworks / approaches to help meet these.
  • Strategic Analytics – leverage own technical skills to perform a range of analyses to drive impactful insights to drive product, servicing or strategic decision making. This involves understanding the business requirements, devising and implementing an analytical approach, sourcing data, carrying out any relevant analysis, model building, significance testing etc and presenting back to the group.
  • Enabling self-service – leveraging our data infrastructure and visualization tools to build automated self-service tools to empower ‘non-technical’ teams across the business to access the data sources they need.
  • ‘Get smart’ with new data sources – understanding our key data sources in their most granular format, understand the SQL to extract Vanguard-centric data requests and the relationships between the key underlying tables and data sources. Help drive the ETL priorities and partner with our broader Data Team to get the most from our AWS data infrastructure.
  • Team growth – forming part of a diverse team tackling a range of business priorities. The successful candidate will be comfortable coaching peers, sharing findings and will be excited by the prospect of learning more from the team and SME’s within the business.

Required Qualifications / Experience

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. Graduate degree preferred.
  • SQL: advanced data extraction, wrangling and formatting. Experience with Hadoop framework (particularly querying using Hive & Presto) is preferable but not essential. Interviewing for the role should require extensive SQL assessment.
  • Python / R – proficient in at least one open-source programming language particularly in application to statistical analysis.
  • AWS: Experience with AWS (particularly Athena, S3 and glue ETL) again preferable but an understanding of cloud computing infrastructure and capabilities a big plus.
  • Visualisation: the role requires supporting teams to get value from our data, a key part of which will be surfacing and visualising data for non-technical users. Tableau and/or Amazon Qucksight experience preferable.
  • Experience with predictive analytics, data modelling and an interest in machine learning.
  • Business /FS acumen: the role will involve partnering with non-technical SME’s to solve business challenges so will require thinking beyond the technical and in the context of UKPI as an investment platform and as a distribution channel within the broader business.
