This notice is issued under direct-hire authority to recruit new talent to occupations for which NIST has a severe shortage of candidates. Basic Requirements: A. Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position. OR B. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience. For ZP-3: In addition to the above basic requirements: Applicants must have one year (52 weeks) of the specialized experience at the GS-9 level (ZP-II at NIST). Specialized experience is defined as experience with Trustworthy and Responsible Artificial Intelligence (AI) concepts such as Fairness and Explainability, and machine learning modeling techniques. Experience with effective written and oral communication to explain, justify, or discuss a variety of public issues. OR Master's or equivalent degree OR Combination of education and experience FOR ZP-4: In addition to the above basic requirements: Applicants must have one year (52 weeks) of the specialized experience at the GS-12 level (ZP-III at NIST). Specialized experience is defined as experience with computational social science methods; Trustworthy and Responsible Artificial Intelligence (AI) concepts such as Fairness and Explainability; specialized machine learning modeling techniques, and working with structured and unstructured data. Experience with effectively communicating highly complex technical material and topics related to AI, facilitating the formulation of a decision. Experience with effective written communication to explain, justify, or discuss a variety of public issues. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done. We will credit all qualifying volunteer experience in your application.
