The Faculty of Science is a world-class faculty where staff and students work together in a dynamic international environment. It is a faculty where personal and academic development are top priorities. We are committed to expand fundamental knowledge by curiosity and to look beyond the borders of their own discipline; their aim is to benefit science, and to make a contribution to addressing the major societal challenges of the future. The research carried out at the Faculty of Science is very diverse, ranging from mathematics, information science, astronomy, physics, chemistry and bio-pharmaceutical sciences to biology and environmental sciences. The research activities are organized in eight institutes. These institutes offer eight bachelor’s and twelve master’s programs. The faculty has grown strongly in recent years and now has more than 2,300 staff and almost 5,000 students. We are located at the heart of Leiden’s Bio Science Park, one of Europe’s biggest science parks, where university and business life come together.
The Leiden Academic Center for Drug Research (LACDR) is a leading institute in the field of innovative drug research and education. Multidisciplinary drug research coupled with the training of young researchers is the primary mission of LACDR. Since September 2016, the LACDR, together with the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC), has also been training pharmacists within the Master's degree programme Pharmacy, which is characterized by a strong focus on pharmaceutical patient care and pharmaceutical treatment. Within LACDR, the pharmacy education is organized by the pharmacy team, a relatively new group of dedicated researchers and lecturers. The research of the Pharmacy team at LACDR focusses on the development of predictive models to improve clinical drug safety. There is a strong collaboration in Pharmacy Leiden, which brings together the fundamental drug research performed at the Leiden Academic Centre for Drug Research (LACDR) with patient-focused research at the Leiden University Medical Centre with the overall aim to improve human health by delivering the most suitable drug treatment for each individual patient.
