Job Description

Verisk Innovative Analytics (VIA), a unit of Verisk Analytics (VRSK), develops advanced analytical solutions to challenging problems related to risk and decision-making in insurance, healthcare, financial services, energy, and retail. We are an internal analytical consultancy for various Verisk business units and a research and development team for new analytical products that cross business areas or extend us into new industry verticals. Our work combines vast data resources with advanced technology to create innovative and technically rigorous solutions. VIA employs a multidisciplinary team of individuals with advanced backgrounds in statistics, actuarial science, mathematics, computer science, machine learning, operations research, and many other fields.

Position Overview

Verisk Innovative Analytics is looking for a bright analytic scientist/data scientist. In this position, you will work in small teams on all aspects of varied analytic projects with a focus on Big Data, Predictive Modeling, and Natural Language Processing (NLP). Level of hire will be based on years of relevant experience.

Person would be required to work individually or as part of a team on data science projects and work closely with US team members.

Responsibilities include:

  • Design analytic solutions for our industry verticals and cross-enterprise product research.
  • Develop analytic solutions using machine learning techniques including Predictive Modeling, Text Mining, Entity Resolution, Time-series Forecasting, and Network Analytics.
  • Conduct end-to-end analysis that includes data gathering and requirements specification, model development and evaluation, ongoing deliverables, deployment support and presentations.
  • Responsible for the assessment and remediation of data quality related issues while working with large and complex enterprise data models and large volumes of data. Processing, cleansing, and verifying the integrity of data used for analysis.
  • Research and develop analysis, forecasting, and optimization methods to improve the quality of Verisk’s products.
  • Stay current on published state-of-the-art methods, emerging technologies, and applications. Research and evaluate technical innovations and new developments in relevant analytic fields.

  • Strong programming skills, particularly in Python or R.
  • Ability to solve problems analytically and creatively.
  • Familiarity with SQL or NoSQL (e.g., Hadoop, HBase, MongoDB and/or Neo4j) databases.
  • A depth of knowledge in one or more of Big Data Platforms, Predictive Modeling, Entity Resolution, Time-series Forecasting, Graph Databases, Network Analytics, Natural Language Processing.
  • Familiarity with one or more deep learning software frameworks such as Tensorflow, PyTorch.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required with the ability to clearly communicate modeling results to a wide range of audiences.
  • Comfortable in a virtual environment, e.g. conference calls and webinars and can work effectively with teams in remote location.
