Job description

This position is responsible for planning and engineering the Frontier Core IP network with primary support for all BNG (Broadband Network Gateway) network elements. The ideal candidate should have an in-depth understanding of Service Provider technologies that include routing protocols, subscriber management, automation, and be able to create and review detailed installation documentation. The candidate should be dynamic and be able to efficiently multi-task on several key initiatives and projects simultaneously.


  • Develop detailed Engineering Service Orders for new BNG network deployments and/or hardware upgrades.
  • Create detailed Method of Procedure (MOP) documents for configuring, testing, or modifying Frontier BNG and Core IP network elements.
  • Create project bill of materials and prepare capital projects for review and approval.
  • Monitor and manage network capacity for BNG and supporting Core routers.
  • Work with Network Operations to aid in troubleshooting efforts and execution of MOPs.
  • Support leadership on capital budget planning.
  • Collaborate with other Engineering and IT teams for network optimization and deployment modeling.

Required Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience with an Internet Service Provider.
  • CCNA, Nokia NRS I, and/or JNCIA-SP certifications
  • Fluent understanding of IP networking, routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, IS-IS, MPLS, etc.), Subscriber Management (AAA, Radius, CoS, DHCP, PPPoE, etc.), and BNG network hardware and OS (vBNG, JUNOS, JunosE, Nokia SROS, Cisco IOS/IOSXR).
  • Experience with the following protocols and technologies: Ethernet, TCP/IP, OSPF, IS-IS, BGP, MPLS, Multicast (PIM/IGMP), QoS, and VOIP.
  • Strong technical, analytical, and organizational skills associated with planning, design and implementation of complicated service provider architectures and applications.
  • Strong written and interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate complex network architectures in written and verbal form.
  • Understanding of large-scale network capacity management, modeling, and troubleshooting.

Desired Qualifications

  • Preferred 5-7 years of experience with an Internet Service Provider.
  • Experience with U-Verse, FiOS, or other triple-play residential delivery architectures.
  • Experience with large-scale service provider Core and BNG IP networks.
  • Strong knowledge of service provider routing and/or transport architectures, including knowledge of commonly used BNG network hardware vendors (Juniper, Cisco, and Nokia)
  • JNCIS-SP, Nokia NRS II, and/or CCNP
  • Software development and/or scripting experience – Python/Perl.
